APPRECIATING ABORIGINAL ART
Australian indigenous art is steeped in a proud and wonderful history. Each magnificent painting depicts a Dreaming [story] inspired by a rich tapestry of cultures and customs - dating back to thousands of years before the white man even thought about discovering this great land.
As a race of people, the aborigines affinity with the earth and respect for its elements leaves a lot for non-indigenous people to ponder. They truly epitomise the expression We only inherit the environment from our grandchildren.
INVESTING IN ABORIGINAL ART
The advantages of investing in quality collectable indigenous fine art are as diverse as they are rewarding. Not only will you be investing in a financial and aesthetic sense for yourself, but you will also be investing in an altruistic sense for the artists themselves and their extended families as well as gaining an appreciation of our national heritage and culture.
However, we should point out that you dont need an investment portfolio to appreciate aboriginal art just a blank wall and a comfy chair will do.
We are proud to present an extensive collection of investment quality
indigenous fine art sourced solely from the Central and Western Desert regions, and painted by some of Australia's 50 most collectable artists. These magnificent works cater for all aesthetic tastes, budgets and wall spaces, and will ideally complement any residential or commercial decor situation.

Wendy grew up on a dairy farm in the beautiful town of Denmark, South Western Australia and from an early age developed a keen interest in animals and the outdoors. After her graduation with a BA in Art & Design from Curtin University in 1982 (majoring in ceramics), Wendy based herself and her business ‘Stunned Emu Designs’ in Fremantle, Western Australia. Initially she produced handmade and hand painted pottery, combining her interest in Australian wildlife with her art. She became well known for her brightly coloured terracotta pieces and quirky characters, particularly her trademark ‘emu with attitude’. Since opening a shop in The Fremantle Markets in 1995, Wendy has developed and extended her range of products to include mugs, stationery, books, prints, bags and her much sought after original paintings. Early in 2010, Wendy opened her own Gallery in South Terrace, Fremantle which has enabled her to extend her range even further and to display more of her original artwork including seascapes and landscapes.
Her humorous designs are popular with all age groups, but particularly with children. The enthusiasm of children for her designs prompted Wendy to write her first children’s picture book, ‘Where’s Stripey?’ with ‘Stripey’ an emu chick as the main character. Having written, illustrated and self published the book to great acclaim, it won two awards including the prestigious 'Western Australia Premier’s Children’s Book Award'. Stripey was such a huge success, that as well as producing a Stripey plush toy, Wendy wrote and published another book ‘Scrambled Egg’ again featuring Stripey on another adventure. Her long awaited third Stripey book ‘Invisible Me’ was published in October 2011 and is already proving a big hit, with many considering it to be the best yet! And, such is his fame, and growing celebrity status, Stripey is to star in his very own Musical Theatre Production which will tour nationally in 2012!
Wendy is an avid outdoor enthusiast, and has been actively involved in many adventurous activities during her lifetime. These have included rock climbing, scuba diving, cave diving, trekking and kayaking. Much of her inspiration for her artwork and stories have come whilst she is undertaking extreme solo walks such as her trek of the Larapinta Trail and her solo wilderness walk across the Australian Alps. She has travelled worldwide and in recent times has visited Kakadu National Park, Kenya, Tasmania, Bali, the South Island of New Zealand, and Alice Springs, all providing her with inspiration for her artwork.
Wendy has combined her love of the natural world with an interest in conservation and has been a volunteer on several conservation projects. She is actively involved in the ongoing work to save the endangered Western Ground Parrot and has spent time in Esperance and Albany (South Western Australia), surveying and monitoring their numbers. To raise awareness of their plight, Wendy has introduced Toot, a western ground parrot as a character in ‘Invisible Me’. Wendy donated $800 from her Book Launch sales of ‘Invisible Me’ to the Friends of the Western Ground Parrot to support their ongoing work to save it from extinction.
The full range of her distinctive and funny emu designs and other quirky colourful animals can be seen at Wendy’s Gallery, on the Cappuccino Strip in Fremantle and at her shop in The Fremantle Markets. Also available in her shops is metal art by Paul and Kaye Moro incorporating some of Wendy’s designs.
